IS GOD CALLING YOU
To serve as a Catechist?
Does that question sound intimidating? Do you think you do not know enough to help others about our Faith? At our baptism, God not only incorporated us into the Body of Christ, but he also gave us a command, “Go and teach all nations…” Sharing our faith with others can be one of the most satisfying things we can do because it deepens our faith and causes us to grow in it as well. We also experience the joy of seeing the Faith grow in others. If you have been experiencing thoughts about serving as a catechist, perhaps that is the Holy Spirit guiding you to this fulfilling ministry. Our DRE, Jan Carnahan, will be happy to talk with you about any questions you may have. We also will have classes to train those who respond to the call to be a Catechist.

The Inquiry Period of the OCIA is designed to answer questions of those who have shown an interest in the Catholic Church but are not ready to make a commitment to join. The catechists are friendly and knowledgeable and do not pressure anyone to join the Church. Some of the usual questions are answered, such as: Why do Catholics confess their sins to a priest? Do Catholics worship Mary? What is the Mass? What do Catholics believe about communion? Why does the Church have a pope? And more! Unique individual questions are also answered. At the end of the period, those who wish to continue are welcomed into the Catechumenate so they can learn more and decide if they want to become Catholic. If you offer to accompany your relative or friend to the first session, it could make that person feel more comfortable.
The Inquiry sessions will begin Sunday, July 9th, 9:45-11:15am in the Library located in the Administrative wing of the church.

Catechetical Institute: Franciscan University
Would you like to know how to deepen your prayer and spiritual life, develop a closer relationship with Christ? Do you have questions about the Catholic Church, how to be a Christian parent or spouse in a secular society, how to have a faith-filled marriage, how to share your faith with others?
You can now have these questions answered in the comfort of your own home, at your convenience and at your own pace. No pressure, meetings to drive to, or papers to write.
Good Shepherd Parish is partnering with The Franciscan Catechetical Institute this year to bring a wonderful source of online information and formation to you and your family. Don’t be fooled by the title – this is not a program for Catechists only and This is NOT a typical educational program - It’s not a program at all! It is a way to deepen your own spirituality as you find the answers to questions you have regarding everyday life as a Catholic Christian and the richness of our Church.
You can participate in either of two ways:
You can choose tracks & subjects of interest to you for your own personal edification.
You can also choose from 18 tracks offered that will lead to Diocesan recognition and Certification in areas such as: Catechesis, Music Ministry, African American Faith and Family, Sports Ministry, Ministry of Parenting, Hispanic Faith and Family, Youth Ministry and much, much more. This opportunity is free of charge to our parishioners at Good Shepherd. Take this opportunity to make it a New Year for you, and pray for those you love. You can begin this journey the beginning the week of January 27, 2020 - a mentor from our parish will work with you - more information is available through the Office.
