Anointing of the Sick

Are you baptized and getting ready to have surgery?  Just diagnosed with short term, long term or serious illness?  Ask to be anointed.  If you would like to be anointed, call Maria Rosario in the Office,
(910) 425-1590.  If you have been anointed by Fr. Gaul either before, during or after Mass in the past, please notify Maria in the Office with name and date of anointing.  This will allow her to record your information in the Sick Call Register.  Thank you.

Marriage

Couples are asked not to set a date for their wedding until an initial meeting with the Pastor or Deacon.  Diocesan requirements mandate a minimum six-month period of preparation.

Baptism

Parental participation in a program to prepare parents is required.  Arrangements must be made at least 3 months in advance of your desired baptismal date.  The parish offers classes for parents and godparents.  Parents must attend BOTH sessions before scheduling a baptism and godparents are asked to attend a session as well, either at their home parish or Good Shepherd.
Baptismal preparation is a necessary requirement
To register for this session contact Trisha in the Office of Faith Formation, 910- 425-5617
Baptismal preparation is a necessary requirement for both parents and godparents.
To schedule for the class and any questions, contact Trisha Martin-Kamionka, 910-425-5617.

Has it been a while since you or your family has experienced forgiving power of the Lord through the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation?
There is no time like the present to purify your heart.

Here's how to do it:
Before celebrating the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation, be sure to prepare with an Examination of Conscience.  Click HERE for an Examination of Conscience Guide.
Enter the confessional.  The priest greets us, and we pray the Sign of the Cross.
We confess our sins.  The priests may help and counsel us.
The priests gives us a penance to perform.
The priests asks us to express our sorrow, usually by reciting the Act of Contrition.
We receive absolution.  The priests says, "I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."  We respond, "Amen."
The priest dismisses us by saying, "Go in peace."  We go forth to perform the act of penance he has given us.

Diocesan Norms for Receiving Communion

The Diocese of Raleigh published its norms in 2008, which were reprinted in a series of monthly bulletin inserts August - October of that year.  As a number of parishioners were not here then and some have questioned why people stand after communion, we thought a reprint of a couple paragraphs are in order.
"Paragraph 92- The normative posture for the reception of the Holy Communion in the Dioceses of the United States is standing.  However, communicants are not to be denied Holy communion because they kneel.
Paragraph 95- Following the reception of Holy Communion, individual communicants return to their place in the Assembly and remain standing.  However, this uniformity of posture does not prohibit individual communicants from choosing to kneel or sit..."
In the bulletin inserts provided by the diocese entitled, "Celebrating the Sacred Liturgy of the Mass: A Review of New Diocesan Norms - Part VI", the following is stated: "A Time of Profound Reverence- The time of receiving Holy Communion is a very sacred time.  Once we have received Holy Communion, we should return to our place in the assembly reverently.  As a sign of our unity, we are invited to stand and sing the Communion hymn until all have received Holy Communion.  Those who individually desire, and those in need, may sit or kneel..."
