    NORMS FOR FASTING AND ABSTINENCE
Ash Wednesday, February 26, 2020, and Good Friday, April 10, 2020, are days of fasting and abstinence.  Fridays of Lent are also days of abstinence. Fasting is to be observed by all 18 years of age and older, who have not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. On a fast day one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to  maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal.  Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed.  Abstinence is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence, no meat is allowed.  Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, Church law does not oblige. When in doubt  concerning fast and abstinence, the Parish Priest should be consulted.
Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and Catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and preparation for Initiation into the Church or the renewal of Baptism Promises at Easter.

Lenten Suppers and Stations of the Cross

Beginning Friday, February 28, on Friday’s during Lent, we will share a meal and pray the Stations of the Cross together afterwards.
The Lenten Soup Suppers, which will be meatless, will begin at 5:30pm in the Social Hall.   Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will begin at 7pm, with Stations of the Cross and closing with Benediction, which can be found in the Blue Hymnal, #139.
A different parish ministry has been selected to lead the Stations and host the Soup Supper each week.

                                   **40 CANS 4 LENT**
40 Cans Lent Boxes: Middle School Youth Ministry has done a great job  decorating the annual 40 Days for Lent Boxes.
The Knights of Columbus is once again sponsoring this  Lenten opportunity to help stock the food pantries of Good Shepherd, the Alms House, and Catholic Charities, assist the Kids Assistance Program (KAP), and the Women of Charity Easter Basket project.  Participants are asked to donate one non-perishable food item per day and to bring their donations to the Church each weekend so the items can be distributed during Lent to the various food pantries, and to KAP. Items needed for the food pantries include spaghetti, pasta sauce, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, rice, cereal, oatmeal, canned meats, vegetables, fruit, and tuna. Items needed for KAP include: gallon zip-lock freezer bags, tall kitchen garbage bags,  plastic spoons, bottled  water, single serve boxes of cereal, fruit snacks, individual 100% juice boxes, individual size shelf staple milk, pack of Cheese & Crackers (Please No Peanut Butter), “instant lunch” (in cup) Ramen Noodles w/vegetables, beef jerky sticks, and Chef Boyardee microwaveable pastas.
Last year we collected over 2100 items.
Boxes will be located in the Gathering Area by the Share Table and at the Entrances to Church and Social Hall beginning Ash Wednesday.

Best Lent Ever

Make this your Best Lent Ever Yet!
Ask one of the members of the Evangelization Team for a "Best Lent Ever Journal." OR purchase one from DynamicCatholic.com. This is a limited edition for 2020 and is based upon the Christmas book “Rediscovering the Saints”. This is a day by day journal through Lent with a daily focus, personal
reflection, question about you, and the daily question of "What is God saying to you today?"
Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 26, 2020. We will be reading the book “Rediscovering the Saints” beginning on March 2, 2020 in various locations.
